What you should be able to do
- read every figure, guide and deadline with JavaScript turned off
- navigate the whole site with a keyboard alone, including the charts and the tables
- zoom to 400% without text spilling off the screen or a column vanishing
- use a screen reader or speech recognition software
- use your device’s light or dark setting, and its reduced-motion setting
- read it in your own choice of font, size and colours
- print a page and get the content rather than a navigation bar
Three decisions made for accessibility rather than for looks
Every chart is also a table. The bar charts are plain SVG with a text description, and under each one is a disclosure holding the same numbers as a proper data table — all of them, not just the bars that fitted. Nothing here is a picture of a number, so nothing is unreadable to a screen reader or lost when images are off.
Nothing needs JavaScript to read. The figures are in the HTML, not fetched by a script. That makes the site work on a slow connection, in a text browser, and under assistive technology that trips over dynamically rendered content.
There is no password. Signing in is a link in an email, so there is no password field to remember, mistype or have rejected by a rule nobody told you about. That removes a common accessibility and cognitive barrier, and it adds a different one, which is below.
What is not good enough yet
We would rather name these than let you find them.
- The timed practice sets are timed. They exist to reproduce the pressure of a real assessment, so the clock is the point of them, and a time limit is a barrier for some people. The practice banks themselves are untimed and carry the full worked explanation, so a timed set is never the only way to reach the material. If you find something you can only get at timed, email us and we will send it to you another way.
- Signing in depends on your email. The link expires in 20 minutes, which is tight if moving between an email client and a browser is slow for you. You can ask for another at any time, as often as you need. If that pattern does not work for you at all, tell us and we will find another way in.
- The security check on the forms is not ours. The sign-in and join forms use Cloudflare Turnstile. We do not control it and some people find it difficult. If it blocks you, email enquiries@assizedata.co.uk and we will set the account up at our end.
- Wide tables scroll sideways on a narrow screen. The employer and comparison tables have more columns than a phone can hold. They scroll rather than reflow, which is a compromise we have made in favour of keeping every column reachable, and we are not satisfied with it.
- No independent audit yet. See below.
How we prepared this statement
This is our own assessment of the site against WCAG 2.2 at level AA, using automated checks and testing with a keyboard. Nobody independent has audited it, and no disabled people have been paid to test it, so treat this page as a statement of intent backed by work rather than as a certificate. We will review it whenever the site changes materially.
We are a private company, so the public sector accessibility regulations do not apply to this site. The standard we are measuring ourselves against is the same one.
Telling us about a problem
If something here is hard to use, or you need information in another format, email enquiries@assizedata.co.uk. We answer in two working days. Say what you were trying to do, what got in the way and what would help; you do not have to explain anything about yourself to be taken seriously.
If you are a subscriber and an accessibility problem stops you using something you are paying for, say so. The terms commit us to fixing it or refunding you, and you can cancel from your account page in the meantime without a fee or a notice period.
If we do not deal with it well, the company’s complaints procedure is the next step, and the Equality Advisory and Support Service advises on rights under the Equality Act 2010: equalityadvisoryservice.com.
